GMAT 2014a crashes when adding new Coordinate System

Postby Astropt » Thu Aug 28, 2014 7:54 am

Dear all, I am fairly new to GMAT and got to play around with it in the recent days. A great tool.

On my machine, GMAT 2014a crashes whenever I try to add a new coordinate system in the GUI. I get to right click the Coordinate System folder in the Resources tab and click "Add new Coordinate System". After that the program freezes and I get a windows message telling me that GMAT.exe stopped working. My machine runs Windows 8.1 64bit.

A work-around I found is to edit the mission script file directly and tell it to create the new coordinate systems there. When I then load the script in GMAT, the coordinate systems are there. However, after the first time loading the script, some parameters of the coordinate system were changed. I closed GMAT again. Opened the script and corrected the values again. Now, after loading the script in GMAT, everything works fine. So it seems there is a bug with the GUI :o :D

Thanks for the report! I've logged it as a bug here: http://bugs.gmatcentral.org/browse/GMT-4715

Unfortunately we don't have a Windows 8 machine to test on here, so this might not get fixed right away. It's good you found a workaround, that helps.

I have the same problem when running Windows Vista, so this is not OS-specific. When I try to add a coordinate system, it crashes. I will try to enter the instruction manually, like you suggested.

Is anyone seeing it on Windows 7?

Hi, Joel. I am Youngkwang.
I am working with a new master student. She told me that she also observed the same crach when she tried to add a new coordinate system in GMAT under windows 7 environment (not sure about whether 32/64bit).
After she bought a new laptop having windows 8.1 64 bit, she gets the same crash.

I've never had this kind of issue, so I wonder what is the cause.

Thanks Youngkwang!

This is checked in as bug GMT-4649, and it'll be fixed soon as part of the R2015a release.

As a workaround, she can edit the script to create her coordinate system, like this:

Code: Select all
Create CoordinateSystem myCS
myCS.Origin = ...
myCS.Axes = ...

See the documentation for more details: http://gmat.sourceforge.net/docs/R2014a ... ystem.html

Thank you Joel. It is glad to know it is kind of a common bug many people seeing.
Currently, we are working around the bug as your tips :D
