Repeating Ground Track for SSO orbit

Postby GillesMariotti » Wed May 10, 2017 10:22 am

Dear all,

I am having trouble in reproducing an STK scenario in GMAT, simulating a sun-synchronous orbit with a 15+2/7 recurrence.

I am setting the propagator to neglect any non-gravitational perturbation, and I am setting Earth's gravity model to account only for J2. However, the 2D plot grid does not appear to have an equi-spaced grid.

Clearly I am doing something wrong, but I cannot grasp what.

For reference, the grid that I expect to see after 7 days of propagation is the one shown in blue in "stk_grid.png", while in GMAT I get the green one, "gmat_grid.png".

Any thoughts?

Thank you all.

A little update on the matter: I have discovered that the correct spacing is obtained if the SMA of the orbit is raised by 9.5 km (up from 6852.2 to 6861.7 km). What gives?
